It’s time to get serious about climate change. As our next state representative, I will fight for investments in clean, renewable energy alternatives that will both help offset the effects of climate change and ensure that Louisiana maintains its place as one of America’s leaders in energy. I will also fight for the resources and technology needed to make Louisiana an energy pioneer, creating quality jobs in the process.

Saving Louisiana from Climate Change

Constant flooding is a crisis and is an ongoing threat to our city. As our next state representative, I will fight for the resources and investment that New Orleans needs to upgrade our crumbling pumping and drainage systems. I will also fight to continue the work Mayor Cantrell started by dedicating more tax revenues to drainage, roads, bridges, and levees.

SOLVING OUR FLOODING PROBLEMS NOW

Women have been treated as second class citizens in Louisiana for too long. As our next state representative, I will fight to end the gender pay gap that is keeping tens of thousands of Louisiana women and children below the poverty line. I will also fight to pass the Equal Rights Amendment, and will always support and defend a woman’s right to control her own body.

PROTECTING WOMEN’S RIGHTS

Even in 2019, voting rights and free, fair elections are under attack. As our next state representative, I will fight every day to protect our families from voter suppression and other attacks on the sacred right to vote. I will also fight for a transparent, fair redistricting process that results in honest and accurate representation across the state regardless of what party or what person is in charge.

Even in one of the poorest states in the country, we’ve decided to balance our budget on the backs of the poor. As our next state representative, I will fight for a more predictable and fair tax structure that doesn’t hurt the poor and working class more than everyone else. I will also fight to make sure everyone pays their fair share and to limit giveaways of your hard-earned dollars as corporate welfare.

(FINALLY) BALANCING OUR BUDGET

A healthy New Orleans is a happy, successful, and prosperous New Orleans. As our next state representative, I will fight every day to protect Medicaid in Louisiana and to continue to expand services to those in need. I will never let anyone take away your protections for preexisting conditions, and I will fight for new treatments and services for New Orleans’ health problems, like opioid addiction, HIV/AIDS, diabetes, and mental health.

We should feel safe in our homes, in public, in schools, in movie theatres, in shopping malls, and everywhere else we go in our beautiful city. As our next state representative, I will fight for universal background checks for gun buyers, an absolute ban on assault weapons, and “red flag laws” that would take guns away from dangerous people. I will also fight to bring resources back from Baton Rouge so that our law enforcement officers are properly trained to prevent police shootings.

HELPING PEOPLE FEEL SAFE FROM CRIME

AND GUN VIOLENCE

Everyone in Louisiana should have the freedom to live and work without worrying about being fired for the color of their skin, their actual or perceived gender, or who they love. As our next state representative, I will fight to protect everyone in Louisiana from discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, or sexual identity. I will also fight to remove unjust laws that prevent people of color, LGBTQ+ people, women, and other disadvantaged groups from enjoying the rights everyone else has.

As our next state representative, I will fight for real and necessary criminal justice reform, including decriminalizing marijuana, putting an end to for-profit prisons, ending mass incarceration, and stopping the school to prison pipeline.

PROMISING JUSTICE IN OUR CRIMINAL

JUSTICE SYSTEM

I’m incredibly proud to be a product of Louisiana public schools, and as a longtime proud New Orleanian I look forward to raising my own family in our great local schools. That’s why as our next state representative I’ll fight every day to fully fund our kids’ schools to ensure the brightest possible future for every Louisiana child. It’s why I supported the 2019 teacher pay raise, but also why I recognize that should be just the beginning. I will also fight to fully fund our colleges and universities so that Louisiana families can get relief from high tuition and fee bills, and I will fight every day to prevent cuts to TOPS and other programs that help our families.

Student loan debt is the financial crisis of our time. It affects a significant number of Louisiana families and small business owners, including me. As our next state representative, I will fight for common sense, state-level policies that will provide relief to borrowers and make sure that loans issued to students in Louisiana are done on fair terms. I will also continue the progress we’ve made in Louisiana of removing student loan-based barriers to creating and getting good jobs, starting a business, purchasing a home, and starting a family.
